Alleged DWI Accident on Southwest Freeway in Richmond, TX

Investigators said that a man was in a Ford Crown Victoria on the Reading Road exit ramp. The vehicle was apparently stopped partially in the travel lane. Approaching that vehicle, a Ford Escape reportedly failed to avoid the stopped vehicle and crashed into it.

Due to the crash, the driver of the Crown Vic had serious injuries. There were no other reported injuries. Authorities allege that the Ford Escape driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. No further information can be confirmed right now.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

If it’s true that alcohol contributed to the crash, hopefully authorities are looking into where the alcohol came from. Something that too often slips through the cracks is that alcohol providers can face consequences for their negligence if they contribute to accidents like this. If they unlawfully over-serve someone who is obviously intoxicated, it can expose them to potential criminal investigations, fines, license suspensions, and possible liability for resulting injuries. Ensuring they’re held accountable helps get them to clean up their act, and that makes the roads safer for everyone. Officials in Harris County are often more thorough about looking into this possibility. Hopefully their neighbors in Fort Bend catch on, as well.
