La Salle County, TX — January 27, 2025, one person was injured as the result of an alleged DUI accident at around 7:00 a.m. along Route 23.
According to preliminary statements, the incident happened near Grand Ridge Grade School off of Rt. 23 and North 21st Road.
Details surrounding the accident aren’t entirely clear right now. According to officials, failure to reduce speed and alleged drunk driving resulted in a semi-truck and a car colliding. As a result, one person had to be flown from the scene due to their injuries. Another person was treated at the scene.
Authorities said that “one of the drivers” was arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol. No further information about the accident is available at this time.

Since it’s not clear which driver was allegedly drunk at the time of this accident, it’s important to understand why either scenario could be incredibly complex. For one, there’s the possibility of an intoxicated truck driver. That obviously would raise questions about holding that driver accountable, but it would also raise questions about that driver’s employer. Did they not know one of their drivers was drinking on the job? Was there not a history of drunk driving? Were they not being thorough in their background checks? One driver’s mistakes could be a sign that there are more serious problems behind the scenes that need to be brought to light and remedied.
Alternatively, if the driver of the passenger vehicle was intoxicated, that could raise questions into whether the driver was unlawfully served by an alcohol provider. Like Texas, many states have laws that say alcohol providers can be held accountable if they serve someone whose intoxication then leads to someone getting hurt. These rules vary by state and based on the exact circumstances of an accident, so there can be a significant legal maze between victims and seeing full accountability for the harm done to them.
Either way, I doubt that any path forward here is going to be simple or straight-forward. Hopefully steps are taken to ensure those affected by this crash have all the tools they need to gather clear evidence and navigate the potential avenues available to them going forward.
