Accident Report

April 18, 2026, two people were injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at 11:15 p.m. along Stassney Lane.

Investigators say that the crash took place in the area of the Stassney Lane and South Pleasant Valley Road intersection.

It appears that three 19-year-olds and another man were in a Toyota Camry going eastbound on Stassney. A 27-year-old man was in a Tesla going northbound. At the intersection, it appears the vehicles collided.

Due to the accident, the Tesla driver and one of the passengers from the Toyota were seriously injured. Authorities allege that the Toyota driver had been drinking, and they recommended a charge for intoxication assault.

How Did This Accident Occur?

If the allegations from authorities are true, then it would seem alcohol is the likely culprit for this crash. I can’t say that with 100% certainty based only preliminary statements, but most every crash investigation I’ve been apart of where alcohol was involved, the alcohol was the primary factor that caused the crash. But even in those situations, things were rarely ever open-and-shut. That’s because investigations would dig further into where the alcohol came from, which is especially important when an allegedly drunk driver is underage.

It is not that unusual to see drunk drivers under 21 in a big city. That’s especially true considering there’s a major university in the city. So if authorities find that a 19-year-old had been drinking, it’s important to find out where. Was it at a party? At a private residence? Did an unscrupulous bar or club serve them? Was it a corner store or liquor store? It’s entirely possible that the consequences for the crash extend well beyond the crash scene itself, depending on what investigators find.

So while these preliminary statements may seem pretty straight-forward, they may actually present a challenging legal situation for investigators to look into. Maybe this all comes down to a single reckless individual. Or, maybe there were multiple mistakes that preceded the crash which need to be addressed. Either way, my hope is authorities are looking at this from all angles so the victims and families involved know there will be appropriate consequences.

Did anyone see the crash or pass by the aftermath? Let me know in the comments if you saw anything at the scene that stood out.
