Lubbock, TX — June 14, 2024, a woman was injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at around 11:30 p.m. on Idalou Road.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident took place at the intersection of Idalou Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

According to officials, a 64-year-old woman was in a Ford Escape that was going eastbound along Idalou. At MLK, the woman reportedly attempted to make a left turn when a westbound Chevy Silverado crashed into her vehicle. As a result, the woman had serious injuries. The other driver, a 19-year-old, wasn’t hurt.

Authorities allege that the teen driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time. Something I talk a lot about is the importance of finding out where alcohol came from after a serious accident. That would be especially important if there’s a local business selling alcohol to minors. In a college town like Lubbock, that’s unfortunately not so unusual.
But the big issue there is that there could be more than one mistake for a complicit alcohol provider to take responsibility for. I’ve had hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers, and investigations usually show that an establishment who breaks the law breaks multiple laws. That sort of provider is only going to cause further harm to the community until they’re finally held accountable for their actions. So if authorities aren’t looking into that possibility here, they may not be getting the whole story.
