May 5, 2026, a man was injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at around 5:29 p.m. along Highway 105.
According to officials, the accident took place at the intersection of Highway 105 and FM 149 (South Liberty Street).
Investigators said that a 51-year-old man was riding a motorcycle eastbound along the highway. At FM 149, authorities say that a Ford F-350 failed to yield making a left turn. As a result, the motorcycle and the truck collided.
The motorcyclist reportedly had serious injuries. The truck driver allegedly fled the scene, but details suggest authorities know who the driver is. They allege that the truck driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time. They recommended charges.
How Did This Accident Occur?
With authorities alleging alcohol was a factor here, that makes the situation seem pretty open-and-shut. But even this early in the evening, it’s important to find out where the driver got their alcohol. It could be that this crash was not just the result of a reckless drunk driver but also a complicit negligent alcohol provider. Let me explain.
I handled a crash not long ago where a drunk driver turned into oncoming traffic, hit a family head-on, and seriously injured a young kid. When we retraced the driver’s steps, we found out he’d gone out with co-workers to a local happy hour right after their shift ended (around 5:00 p.m.). There, the man proceeded to become so drunk he could barely walk to the bathroom, let alone drive. Despite the obvious signs of intoxication, the bar unlawfully continued to serve the man. He eventually stumbled out to his car, and people nearly died as a result.
In that situation, had the investigations simply began and ended at the crash scene, that bar likely would have flown under the radar, continuing to put other families in danger. Instead, a proper investigation beyond just what was obvious at the scene helped ensure all parties answered for their role in the crash.
That’s why stories like this one always catch my eye. If the allegations are true, then I have no doubt authorities will see the alleged drunk driver answers for their actions. But will authorities continue their investigations to ensure all parties responsible for the victim’s injuries face accountability? That remains to be seen.
