Accident Report

September 13, 2026, two people were injured due to an alleged DWI accident shortly before 11:15 p.m. along Dallas Drive.

According to authorities, a 24-year-old man who had allegedly been under the influence of alcohol was traveling in a southbound vehicle on Dallas Drive in the vicinity of I-35E when the accident took place. Officials indicate that the vehicle crashed into a second vehicle occupied by two people. The impact apparently caused the second vehicle to overturn, coming to a stop resting on its roof in a nearby parking lot.

The two people from the overturned vehicle reportedly sustained injuries of unknown severity over the course of the accident, though they were noted as not having been life-threatening. The 24-year-old from the striking vehicle—who had purportedly said he was on his way home from a concert—was taken into police custody. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people, upon hearing about this accident, will be hyper focused on the accident itself. I certainly do not want to mitigate the importance of the scene of the wreck. News reports have already stated that the driver had allegedly been under the influence of alcohol. Because of the over three decades of experience I have with alcohol-related cases, I hope that the investigators think to look beyond the crash scene itself to the concert venue where he said he had been drinking.

You might be wondering why this is relevant? Well, there is the chance that he was overserved by the alcohol providers at the concert. If that does turn out to have been the case, then the person(s) who made the decision to continue serving him drinks even after he was obviously intoxicated hold(s) a not insignificant portion of the responsibility for the outcome of the wreck.

Okay, so what can be done about it? Well, there is a lesser-known tool called Dram Shop Law. When someone is hurt or killed in an accident caused by someone who was overserved, then this law allows for the establishments where the driver was overserved to be held accountable for the part they played.

For those affected by this accident, having that kind of accountability extended to everyone who deserves it can do a lot to help. This can only happen if those looking into it are thorough enough to follow the trail of the alcohol to its source and assess whether or not overservice was a contributing factor. Hopefully the investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get to the bottom of it.
