Accident Report

July 25, 2026, a teenager and three others were hurt after an alleged drunk driver accident at 7:53 p.m. along North Collins Street.

Preliminary statements about the accident say that the crash happened at North Collins Street and Viridian Park Lane, north of NE Green Oaks Boulevard.

It appears that two women and a 13-year-old were in a Mercedes-Benz going southbound along Collins Street. A Jeep Cherokee was going southbound, as well. Authorities say that the Jeep failed to control speed, and it crashed into the Mercedes-Benz.

Due to the accident, authorities say the teen passenger sustained serious injuries. The two women in the Mercedes-Benz had minor injuries. The Jeep driver also reportedly had minor injuries.

Authorities allege that the Jeep driver was over twice the legal limit for drunk driving. They recommended a charge for DWI. Additional details are unavailable at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

The answer to this question may seem pretty obvious, since authorities allege that a driver was under the influence of alcohol when they caused the crash. Even if the allegations are true, though, that may not be the whole answer. A lot of alcohol-related accidents involve multiple wrongdoers: The drunk driver behind the wheel and the negligent alcohol provider who over-served them. Let me give an example of what exactly this means.

I had this case a while back involving a family who was hit by a drunk driver. Everything seemed pretty straight-forward, but they asked us to take a look at things just to get an outside opinion. What stood out to us was that authorities never bothered to find out where the drunk driver had been drinking. Our investigations didn’t take long to show why that was so important.

Through our efforts, we found evidence that the drunk driver had been unlawfully over-served by a local bar doing a happy hour. It got to the point the man could barely walk to the bathroom without falling over, yet the drinks kept coming. In Texas, that exposes an alcohol provider to multiple potential legal consequences, including fines, criminal investigations, and responsibility for any harm that person’s intoxication may cause. Seeing all of that, the family was actually shocked that authorities almost let all of that evidence slip through the cracks.

Frankly, I’ve worked with many families who had similar reactions. One would think that Texas holding alcohol providers accountable for over-serving people would get more attention. In a lot of drunk driving accidents, though, investigations begin and end at the scene. Maybe authorities here have been more thorough and have worked to confirm or rule out the possibility of there being an accomplice to all this chaos. That’s just not the sort of thing I’d take for granted.
