How Did This Accident Occur?
It is unclear at this point what caused this pickup to leave the road. Was the driver districted or fatigued? Did he swerve to avoid another vehicle? Did his pickup have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? The only way to know what happened here is to complete a full investigation.
Authorities likely will work to reconstruct the crash by poring over physical evidence, witness statements, data from the Chevrolet and any available video footage of this accident. Cell phone records could show what the driver was doing in the moments before the crash.
If investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this accident, a forensic examination will be needed, likely by an independent expert. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such an inspection, in my experience.
This kind of investigation should provide the driver’s family with a clear picture of what happened on I-35 south of Waxahachie.
