Harris County, TX — June 14, 2024, Alexis Fabela was injured as the result of a car accident at around 1:20 a.m. along Bear Bayou Drive.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened in the area of Bear Bayou Drive and Pecan Street.
According to officials, 23-year-old Alexis Alexandro Fabela was in a GMC Sierra going westbound along Bear Bayou. For reasons which aren’t clear right now, the vehicle went off-road, hit a mailbox, and crashed into the ditch. As a result, Fabela reportedly had serious injuries. There was no one else mentioned in relation to the crash.

With accidents like this, one of my main concerns is whether or not the victim ever got to tell their side of the story. It might surprise people how often authorities base their investigations on simply talking to the people involved. But with serious injuries, someone may not be in a position to speak to authorities right away. That means officers need to follow up later on, and they need to gather as much evidence from the scene as possible to make sure they’re getting the whole story.
With single-vehicle accidents, though, I’ve talked to many families who were left in the wind because officers were rushed to work on other jobs that were considered a higher priority, and they weren’t able to finish their investigations into the crash. It’s one of the reasons there often needs to be independent investigators around to fill in the gaps and catch whatever authorities let slip through the cracks. My hope is authorities here were prudent enough to avoid those mistakes, but it’s not the sort of thing I’d take for granted.
