One thing to keep in mind with single-vehicle wrecks is that they’re not often seen as a priority. Authorities may not look too deeply into the details, and they could ultimately move on without actually getting the whole story. This can mean they’ll overlook things like mechanical issues, road hazards, medical conditions, steering or tire defects, faulty airbags or seatbelts, missing signage or lighting, etc. At the end of the day, folks deserve a chance to tell their side of the story. That requires evidence, and that’s why a lot of victims and families end up having to look for answers from investigators independent of the authorities. It wouldn’t be surprising if this turned out to be one of those situations.
