Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

One of the biggest challenges with single-vehicle wrecks is just ensuring there will be answers for the victim’s loved ones. It can surprise folks how often authorities see a crash like this as a low priority, and that can result in officials overlooking important details. I get calls all the time from families who assumed authorities would get all the facts only to find themselves left with unanswered questions. Many of those calls involved single-vehicle wrecks.

As such, it can be helpful to consider this general rule of thumb when considering whether or not to rely on the authorities to investigate a car accident. Simply put, if people feel they’re getting clear, sensible answers, and they feel their doubts are being alleviated, then it’s likely because authorities are doing a good job. But if there are still doubts, things aren’t adding up, and answers don’t seem satisfactory, it’s reasonable for a family to consider alternative paths to getting the answers they deserve.
