How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s not clear at this point what caused this truck to leave the road. Was the driver fatigued or distracted? Did the truck swerve to avoid an object in the road? Did its cargo shift, causing the driver to lose control? Did the truck have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? These are the kind of questions that authorities should consider as they work to reconstruct this accident.

Physical evidence, witness statements, data from the truck’s engine control module and any available video footage should help investigators piece together what happened. Cell phone records could help determine if the driver was distracted, but it will take a forensic examination to determine if a mechanical issue contributed to this crash.

Most law enforcement agencies do not have the time or training for such inspections, so an outside expert would be needed to check out the truck.

A thorough investigation should provide the driver’s family with answers to any lingering questions they may have about this crash.
