Authorities said a 2018 Ford pickup towing a hay trailer allegedly failed to yield while turning left into a private driveway when it collided with a westbound 2017 Chevrolet pickup.
Chevrolet driver Alberto Anthony Lopez, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities, while three passengers were hospitalized with unspecified injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Coryell County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Initial reports indicate this crash happened because the Ford pickup failed to yield, but we don’t know why. Or maybe the initial officers on the scene got it wrong. That is why a full investigation is necessary.
Investigators will work to reconstruct this accident by poring over vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and an available video footage, while cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time. An in-depth vehicle inspection will be needed if authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash.
Few law enforcement agencies have the time or training for such exams, in my experience, but the Chevrolet driver’s family deserves to know as much as possible about this accident.
