Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
If it’s true that this all happened due to alcohol, that would likely make things a lot more complex than folks may realize. As straight-forward as it tends to be for drivers facing charges, there are still the injured victims left behind who may have other legal mazes to navigate.
For example, evidence could show that a local alcohol provider negligently over-served the driver. That could expose the alcohol provider to liability for the resulting injuries, as well as potential criminal investigations, fines, and license suspensions. But if investigations don’t bother extending beyond the crash scene, those details could slip through the cracks.
That’s why it’s important for victims and families to know whether or not authorities are working to get them the whole story. If there are still unanswered questions, there may need to be steps taken independent of authorities to get those answers.
