The truck driver, 54-year-old San Angelo resident Avery Arredondo, was not injured in the crash, authorities said.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It would be easy to conclude this crash was the result of driver error, but I’ve seen enough crashes over the course of my career to know that first impressions aren’t as good as settled facts in determining how a crash happened.

This crash actually poses a couple of questions: Why did the pickup leave the road in the first place, and why did these vehicles catch fire after the crash? There aren’t any easy answers here, so a full investigation is vital.

Investigators likely will review evidence from the scene, data from both vehicles and any available witness statements and dashcam footage to piece together the sequence of events that led to this crash, but an independent expert may be needed to examine both vehicles for mechanical defects that could have contributed to the collision or subsequent fire. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such exams, in my experience.
