Accident Report
Houston, TX — July 19, 2026, Adriana Rubio was killed and another person was injured in a suspected drunk driver accident at about 1:45 a.m. on Southwest Freeway/Interstate 69.
Authorities said an Acura RSX lost its bumper near the exit for Chimney Rock Road. The Acura stopped so the driver could retrieve its detached bumper when it was struck from behind by a Ford Mustang, causing both vehicles to catch fire.
A passenger in the Acura, 26-year-old Adriana Elizabeth Guerrero Rubio, died at the scene of the crash, according to authorities, while the driver, a 27-year-old man whose name has not been made public yet, was hospitalized with serious injuries.
The Ford driver was charged with intoxication manslaughter after the crash, authorities said.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Harris County crash.
How Did This Accident Occur?
If a blood test confirms the Ford driver was intoxicated at the time of this crash, authorities should investigate this accident a little differently than other crashes. They should try to figure our where she had been drinking before the crash.
That matters because bars and restaurants are not supposed to serve patrons who are obviously intoxicated, according to state law. If they do, they can share responsibility for injuries caused when those patrons choose to get behind the wheel.
I don’t know if that is what happened in this instance, but those affected by this crash deserve to know everyone who may have played a role in causing this accident.
