How Did This Accident Occur?
There are a lot of details I wouldn’t be able to comment on here without seeing evidence for myself. It’s possible this was just a matter of someone being in the wrong place at the wrong time. With pedestrian accidents, though, people don’t often consider environmental factors. It’s not just about who had the right-of-way but also where the person was, how visible they were, why they were there, and whether or not the driver had any reasonable chance of avoiding the victim.
Obviously, it’s important to know that authorities are looking into all of these factors, but I often hear concern when the police themselves are the ones involved in the accident. People understandably are skeptical when it comes to authorities “investigating their own.” To that, my experience has always been that it’s best to just follow up with authorities and give them a chance to provide answers. If it seems they’re being thorough and fair, then it’s likely they’re doing good investigations. If it seems they’re writing off important possible factors too easily or ignoring certain aspects of an investigation, then it would be reasonable for victims and families to seek out independent professionals who can help keep the facts straight.
Do you agree that’s a fair approach to an accident like this? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
