How Did This Accident Occur?
More than 30 years of handling vehicles accidents tells me that no crash is as simple as early reports indicate this crash near Emerald Lakes was. It says the pickup “went off” the interstate, but that doesn’t just happen.
Was the driver distracted, perhaps by a cell phone? Did another vehicle force it off the road? Did the pickup have a mechanical problem that affected the driver’s ability to steer?
I don’t pretend to know the answers to these questions, but they will come from a proper investigation of this crash. Evidence from the scene, data from the vehicle and any available traffic cam footage may not be enough though. These investigations often require an independent expert to complete a forensic examination of the vehicle, since police often don’t have the time or expertise for such probes.
