Abdourahmane Sarr, 5 Injured in Alleged Drunk Driver Accident in Humble, TX

It appears that a family of five was riding in an Uber reportedly driven by Abdourahmane Sarr. They were going through the intersection at the time when another vehicle reportedly ran the light, crashing into Sarr’s Uber. As a result of the crash, the driver who allegedly ran the light was killed. Abdourahmane Sarr and the family in Sarr’s vehicle were all taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Right now, authorities say they believe the driver who reportedly ran the light was drunk, but that’s not confirmed. If that is what happened, though, it unfortunately wouldn’t be surprising. Of the hundreds of cases I’ve handled involving drunk drivers, most happen late at night or early in the morning around the time bars close. That’s why it’s important to retrace the driver’s steps, as investigations could show there’s a local alcohol provider complicit in what happened here.

My concern there is that authorities don’t always prioritize investigating alcohol providers after drunk driving wrecks. Even in Harris County, where officials are generally more motivated to see negligent alcohol providers face consequences, they let establishments slip through the cracks. They simply can’t be everywhere at once. That’s why I bring this area of Texas law up anytime I get the chance. As more people learn that complicit negligent alcohol providers can be responsible for their role in serious accidents, they’ll become more active in finding out what authorities are looking into and what areas may be better off in the hands of independent investigators who can pick up the slack. That way, there can be a proper resolution for the people affected by these accidents.
