Austin, TX — January 4, 2026, Deputy Aaron Armstrong was killed due to a bar shooting that happened around 1:59 a.m. at Club Rodeo.
Initial reports state that the shooting took place outside of the Rodeo Night Club located at the intersection of N. Lamar Boulevard and Rutland Drive.
According to officials, Aaron Armstrong, a Caldwell County Sheriff’s deputy, was working an off-duty job at the time as security for the club. While doing so, a man was reportedly removed from the club by security. Reports say there was then a confrontation in the parking lot involving that man and others. In events still under investigation, one person ultimately shot Aaron Armstrong, and another allegedly hit him with a vehicle while trying to leave the area.
Due to the incident, Aaron Armstrong was killed. Two people were arrested in connection with both the shooting and striking Armstrong with the vehicle. Investigations are ongoing.

I hope authorities have been quick to preserve any video from the club’s security system (if they have one). That evidence often gets over-written regularly, so securing it early could be crucial. It would also help if anyone at the club around this time might have cellphone video which could help authorities, as well.
