How Did This Accident Occur?
A lot of folks jump to conclusions following any single-vehicle crash, especially one early in the morning. While it is true that driver error is a common factor in these situations, that’s up to the evidence to show. However, that evidence could show there were unusual factors involved that need more attention.
For example, what is the design and the maintenance of the road like in this area? I rarely ever see authorities consider how a roadway is designed, what the signage and visibility is like, how fast the speed limit is, and other factors which can contribute significantly to a driver’s ability to maintain control of their vehicle. Are there dangerous potholes? Are lines not clear? A curves not marked? Is the posted speed limit unsafe for the grade and angle of the roadway?
Maybe a thorough investigation would show road design had nothing to do with this crash. That said, a lot of families don’t even realize that’s something investigators can look into. So, when they find out authorities moved on or drew conclusions without looking at that and other potential factors, they reasonably may want a second opinion. But if authorities can show they’ve looked into all of this, then that can be a welcome relief for a family in need of answers. It remains to be seen how this crash has been handled, but hopefully someone—whether it’s officials or independent professionals—makes an effort to tell the whole story.
If anyone has thoughts about the crash or this stretch of road they’d like to share, leave a comment.
