Authorities said the crash took place in the area of the I-20 and US Highway 83/277 intersection in northwest Abilene.

Right now, the cause of the accident remains unclear. Reports say that least one vehicle and an 18-wheeler crashed, and the 18-wheeler overturned as a result.

Two people were transported from the scene for treatment of unspecified injuries. The truck driver apparently was unharmed. Additional details about the crash are still under investigation at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Late at night, an 18-wheeler accident could involve someone being on their phone, making an unsafe lane change, or not controlling their speed properly. Of course, uncommon possible factors need attention, as well. There may have been some kind of mechanical issue. A driver may have experienced a medical emergency. Objects in the road could have led a driver to swerve suddenly.

The key is to make sure investigators are covering all angles and preserving evidence. Sometimes, authorities have the time and tools to do that. Too often, though, they’re really only able to clear the scene and get traffic moving again. So, it’s important victims and families are proactive and bring in independent investigators if it seems authorities are in over their heads. The sooner there are professionals working to secure evidence, the more likely it is victims and families will see a proper resolution.
