How Did This Accident Occur?

With front-end damage to a truck like this, the most common explanations in my experience are that the truck driver was on their phone, was going too fast, or was cut-off by the other driver. It’s obviously going to take clear evidence to say what happened, and that’s why I hope authorities were able to pull data from both of the vehicles.

Vehicles can store vital data about vehicle behavior leading up to a crash. This can include the vehicle’s speed, braking, and even steering inputs. GPS data could also help shed light on events prior to the collision. Unfortunately, I often see authorities overlook this data, since they tend to be focused on assisting victims and clearing the crash scene. Some of this evidence can be time-sensitive, so if authorities don’t preserve it, it’s best to have independent investigators step in and preserve it before it’s altered or lost.
