How Did This Accident Occur?
Was the Nissan driver fatigued or distracted? Did the car have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? Was the pedestrian in a crosswalk? Was the area well lit? These are the sort of questions that authorities must consider in their investigation.
Investigators will rely on vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and any available video footage to reconstruct this accident. Cell phone records could help trace the pedestrian’s movements and show what the Nissan driver was doing at the time.
If authorities suspect a mechanical problem played a role in this crash, a qualified expert should examine the Nissan in a laboratory setting. Few law enforcement agencies have the time or training for that kind of inspection, but the pedestrian and her family deserve to know as much as possible about what happened at this intersection.
