Accident Report

July 17, 2026, Chandler Hodge was killed and three were injured following a tow truck accident at around 2:35 a.m. along Capital Boulevard.

Current reports on the crash say it took place at the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Trawick Road. According to officials, 35-year-old Chandler Hodge was on a motorcycle at the intersection along with another motorcyclist. While traveling through the intersection, authorities say that a tow truck driver ran the light while making a turn. As a result, the tow truck hit both motorcyclists and a car.

Chandler Hodge reportedly died as a result of the accident. The other motorcyclist and a passenger from the car both had serious injuries. The driver of the car was said to have non-life-threatening injuries.

At this time, reports say that the tow truck driver faces multiple charges, including aggravated felony death by vehicle, three counts of felony serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, and driving with a revoked license.

How Did This Accident Occur?

These are obviously serious allegations, and if they’re true, then operating a tow truck while impaired would certainly explain why a driver would run a light and cause a crash. As serious as that is, though, it might just be the tip of the iceberg. There’s another serious issue that may need to be addressed: Who did this tow truck driver work for?

It’s possible this was a driver who didn’t answer to anyone, but most tow truck drivers have an employer. Those employers have a basic responsibility to make sure their drivers can do the job safely and have all the proper qualifications. It may sound outlandish to some that a company would allow someone behind the wheel whose license was revoked, but I’ve seen many companies do exactly that. They’re so desperate to keep things moving that they ignore huge red flags. Sometimes, they’re just seriously that inept and don’t see what the big deal is. Then, when it inevitably leads to people getting hurt, these employers want to put all of the blame on the driver without accepting responsibility for their own reckless decisions.

Again, that may not be at all what happened here. My concern, though, is authorities sometimes get tunnel vision when there’s someone accused of doing things as serious as what’s being alleged in this crash. That may cause them to move on without continuing their investigations behind the scenes to find out if anyone could have prevented that driver from getting behind the wheel in the first place. If nothing else, I know I’d expect answers to these questions if someone in my family was involved in a similar crash.
