How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people, at first glance, might assume that this wreck was caused by driver error. I’m not saying that’s not a safe bet; human error does play a role in the majority of accidents. But I’ve had the opportunity to analyze hundreds of truck accidents over the last three decades. In that time, I’ve seen plenty of cases where evidence of more unlikely causes was unearthed by the investigation. That’s why I’m slow to jump to conclusions.

To be clear, I’m not insinuating that I somehow know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to point out that, hypothetically, something could have gone wrong with the dump truck to lead to the wreck. What if, for example, the dump truck had a tire blowout? Or perhaps experienced a steering mechanism malfunction? On top of that, there is the fact that it overturned. Was the truck loaded properly to reduce the risk over overturn? Was there an issue with the suspension that made it more prone to roll?

All of these questions would be able to be answered by an in-depth vehicle inspection done by a team of trained professionals in a laboratory setting. Hopefully, the investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get one done. That way, the people left behind by the victim can be given a clear and detailed picture of not only how this accident occurred, but why.
