Accident Report
Smith County, TX — March 28, 2026, Herschel Tarrant Jr. was injured in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 8:20 p.m. on Saline Creek Road.
A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2012 Lexus IS 250 was heading east near Edna Lane when it collided with a westbound 2001 Harley-Davidson FLHPI motorcycle.
Motorcyclist Hershel Tarrant Jr., 53, was seriously injured in the crash south of Tyler, according to the report. His passenger, a 28-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries.
The Lexus driver, who was not injured, was charged with a subsequent offense of driving while impaired after the crash, the report states.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Smith County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
It is not clear from initial reports how these two vehicles collided. That likely will be the focus of the investigators assigned to this crash, but their probe should expand if testing confirms that the Lexus driver was intoxicated. They should look into where she had been drinking before the crash.
It’s one thing if she had been drinking at home, but if she was served at a bar or restaurant while she was obviously intoxicated, that establishment could share responsibility for any injuries she caused after she got behind wheel under Texas law. I’m not saying that is what happened in this instance, but it is worth investigating so those injured in this crash know everyone who might be accountable for it.
