How Did This Accident Occur?

The majority of people who hear about this accident might be quick to blame the victim for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. While that is temping in pedestrian accidents that take place on roadways not designed for their use, we don’t know the whole story. I’ve had the opportunity to analyze hundreds of pedestrian-involved car accidents over the last three decades. I would caution others from being too quick to jump to conclusions.

To be clear, I don’t know more about this specific accident than anyone else. The investigation has yet to be completed and publicize their findings. But what if Gould had been involved in a previous car accident and was simply attempting to cross the active lanes of the interstate in an attempt to reach the relative safety of the shoulder?

And what about the vehicle that struck him? Were the pickup truck’s headlights working properly? Did it, perhaps, experience brake failure or steering malfunction at a critical moment, making a collision with the pedestrian near impossible to avoid? Hopefully the authorities get a vehicle inspection done on it, just to make sure all the bases are covered. If they don’t do one, then a third party investigation can always take that step, if need be.

In the end, the loved ones left behind by Mr. Gould deserve to have a clear picture of what actually occurred and real answers supported by solid evidence, not just convenient excuses that heap blame on the shoulders of the deceased.
