Accident Report

Houston, TX — March 26, 2026, an infant was injured in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 7:10 p.m. on Interstate 10/East Freeway.

Authorities said a 2018 Nissan Altima was parked on the left shoulder of I-10 west of Sam Houston Tollway/State Highway 8 when it was hit from behind by a 2022 Ford Expedition. The crash knocked the car into the concrete median barrier and caused it to spin back onto the interstate.

A 6-month-old infant in the Nissan was hospitalized with critical injuries, according to authorities, while driver Miranda Wells and another passenger suffered minor injuries.

The Ford driver was charged with intoxication assault after he failed a field sobriety test, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Harris County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

An injured child likely is what sets this accident apart from others in most people’s minds, but the allegation that alcohol contributed to this crash is what makes it unique for crash investigators. It adds another question to the standard slate of queries after a crash: Where did the driver get his alcohol?

Authorities likely will gather witness statements, evidence from the scene, data from the vehicles’ engine control modules and any available video footages of the crash, but they also should look into where the Ford driver had been drinking before this accident. It’s one thing if he had been drinking at home, but if he was drinking at a bar or buying alcohol from a licensed provider while clearly intoxicated, that business have violated Texas law. Such businesses can be held accountable for any injuries caused by an obviously intoxicated customer under the state’s dram shop law.

The child’s family deserves to know everyone who may have contributed to this crash, and that only comes from a thorough investigation.
