Accident Report

February 18, 2026, Nauman Santos, Keira Boyd, and two others were injured due to an alleged drunk driver accident at a McDonald’s.

According to authorities, Nauman Santos and Keira Boyd—employees of the restaurant—were sitting in a booth inside the restaurant taking their break when the accident took place. Officials indicate that a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old man who had allegedly been under the influence of alcohol began backing out of a parking spot at a high rate of speed. It then apparently crashed through the wall of the restaurant before fleeing the scene. The 28-year-old man was located and arrested by authorities a short time later, according to reports.

Nauman Santos reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. She was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Three other people who had been in the restaurant—including Keira Boyd—suffered more minor injuries, as well.

Reports state that authorities have recommended charges against the driver of the vehicle: four counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle, criminal mischief, evading arrest, and driving while intoxicated.

How Did This Accident Occur?

I can only imagine how it would feel to be casually sitting in a restaurant on a work break only to have the wall busted in by a backing, out of control vehicle. It’s certainly a good thing that police apprehended the man responsible and he now faces charges in connection with the incident. However, with the experience I have had with drunk driver accidents in the past, I can’t help but to ask the question, “where did he get his alcohol?”

It is possible that he had been drinking at an establishment—such as a restaurant or a bar—before the accident took place. If it’s true, then the people who may have continued serving him drinks even after he was obviously intoxicated could share some of the responsibility for what happened at that McDonald’s. That is where Dram Shop Law comes into the picture.

Dram Shop Law is a tool meant to help ensure that everyone who has a hand in accidents like this one can be held accountable, including the person(s) who overserved the driver. Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that he had been drinking at a bar. If he had not been overserved, then he would not have been drunk behind the wheel; if he had not been drunk behind the wheel, then he would not have backed so recklessly; if he had not backed so recklessly, then those people would never have been injured. Dram Shop Law holds people accountable, including the ones who were not actually at the scene of the accident even though they played a major part in the outcome.

Dram Shop Law, interestingly, is not a very well known tool. Drop me a comment to tell me whether or not you knew about it before reading this article.
