Leticia Dickerson Wrong-way Accident in Houston

Investigators said that a Honda Accord apparently got onto the wrong side of the freeway and began going southbound against northbound traffic. In doing so, the Honda collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla reportedly driven by 35-year-old Leticia Dickerson. Both Dickerson and the Honda driver died as a result of the collision. Harris County officials have yet to release additional details.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Right now, the cause of the accident is unclear. However, wrong-way accidents typically happen for one reason: drunk driving. Maybe this crash is an exception, but the vast majority of deadly wrong-way crashes involve drivers who were illegally over-served by a bar to the point they couldn’t tell which way was which.

That’s why these incidents have to be followed by rigorous investigations into the events preceding the accident. There could be someone out there whose recklessness led to people losing their loved ones, and that’s not something anyone should be willing to let slip through the cracks. Houston authorities are generally more motivated than other Texas cities to take those steps, but it remains to be seen if they’re giving this crash the attention it deserves.
