Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
If the details from authorities are accurate, then there could be more to this than just a reckless driver who drank before getting behind the wheel. In a lot of alcohol-related accidents, investigations will show the drunk driver was unlawfully over-served by an alcohol provider. Even in the middle of the afternoon, there are liquor stores, restaurants, gas stations, and plenty of other alcohol providers who are willing to break the rules. I’ve handled hundreds of cases against these kinds of providers, and seeing them held accountable for contributing to a drunk driving wreck should be as high a priority as seeing a drunk driver held accountable. At the end of the day, both broke the law, and both harmed the community. If that doesn’t call for appropriate consequences, what would?
