Dallas County, TX — October 27, 2024, William Crew was killed following a car accident shortly after 3:45 p.m. along State Highway 161.
According to authorities, 41-year-old William Crew was traveling in a northbound two-door Ford Mustang on State Highway 161 in the vicinity approximately half of a mile south of Walnut Hill Lane when the accident took place.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the Mustang left the active lanes of the highway and moved over to drive on the right shoulder. There, however, it collided with the rear-end of a parked and unoccupied Nissan Pathfinder.
Crew suffered critical injuries over the course of the accident, according to reports. He was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment. However, he was ultimately unable to overcome the severity of his injuries, having there been declared deceased. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

When single-vehicle accidents like this occur, particularly those involving a parked vehicle on the shoulder, it’s crucial to investigate thoroughly to understand what caused the crash. While early reports indicate that the vehicle veered onto the shoulder and collided with a parked SUV, the underlying reasons remain unclear. To uncover the full story, three critical questions must guide the investigation.
First, did the authorities thoroughly investigate the crash? Single-vehicle collisions often require a detailed examination of the scene to reconstruct the sequence of events. Investigators should assess why the Ford Mustang left the active lanes of travel and moved onto the shoulder, as well as whether external factors, such as obstructions or sudden maneuvers, may have influenced the vehicle’s path. Evidence such as skid marks, tire tracks, and damage patterns on both vehicles can help clarify what occurred. Witness statements, if available, could also provide valuable context.
Second, has anyone considered whether a vehicle defect could have contributed to the collision? Mechanical failures, such as issues with the steering, brakes, or tires, can cause a vehicle to veer off course and make it difficult to avoid obstacles. A forensic examination of the Mustang is essential to determine if any such issues were present. Additionally, the fact that the crash involved a stationary vehicle raises questions about the visibility of the parked Nissan Pathfinder and whether any design or maintenance issues contributed to its presence on the shoulder.
Finally, has all relevant electronic data been collected? Modern vehicles like the Ford Mustang are often equipped with event data recorders (EDRs) that can provide crucial insights into speed, braking, and steering inputs leading up to the crash. This data could help determine whether the vehicle’s movements were consistent with driver input or indicative of a mechanical failure. Surveillance or dashcam footage from the area might also capture the moments leading up to the collision, providing additional clarity. Promptly gathering and preserving this data is essential to ensure that no key evidence is lost.
Single-vehicle accidents like this one often appear straightforward but may involve multiple contributing factors that require careful examination. By focusing on the thoroughness of the investigation, exploring the possibility of mechanical issues, and collecting all available electronic data, investigators can ensure that no aspect of the crash is overlooked. For those mourning the loss of William Crew, obtaining these answers is a necessary step toward understanding and closure. A comprehensive investigation is the least we can do to ensure every possible factor is considered.
