Brownwood, TX — March 22, 2023, Whitney Dean and four others were injured due to a car accident that occurred on 15th Street.
Investigators said that the incident happened just before midnight at the intersection of 15th Street and Avenue D. Details suggest that 25-year-old Whitney Dean was in a Honda CR-V with three passengers, one of which was a child. They were going northwest along 15th Street at the time. At Avenue D, police say a Hyundai Santa Fe going southwest ran a stop sign, crashing into Dean’s vehicle.

Due to the crash, Dean and her three passengers were all said to have incapacitating injuries. A passenger in the other vehicle had non-incapacitating injuries. Right now, police allege that the Hyundai driver was under the influence of alcohol. They did not release additional details.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Any mention of alcohol is serious, and it’s possible there will be serious consequences for what happened here. But what exactly will those consequences look like, and are authorities making sure that all contributing factors are getting proper attention?
It’s not always as simple as giving a driver a court date. One possible factor I often see overlooked is if a local business illegally over-served that driver. That establishment could face fines, license suspension, closure (in extreme cases), and even possible liability for their role in the crash. But without thorough investigations, it’s possible that something important slips through the cracks. Hopefully authorities here aren’t letting that happen.
