Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
After any serious accident, it’s important that those affected are confident that their side of the will be told fairly. A lot of people think waiting for the police report is the best way. However, I’ve seen first hand that’s often a mistake. It’s not that authorities can’t do proper investigations. It’s just that when they happen to be shallow or subpar, by the time that becomes clear, weeks or months may have gone by without those affected realizing the investigations haven’t been thorough enough. That’s why it’s generally best to have independent investigators look into serious accidents as soon as possible. They may simply confirm what police know, or they may reveal new details authorities missed. Either way, they can help ensure that the full story is brought to light.
