1 Injured in Truck Accident on I.H. 78 in Berks County, PA

Berks County, PA —July 1, 2024, one person was injured following a truck accident sometime before 8:30 a.m. along Interstate Highway 78.

According to authorities, an 18-wheeler was traveling westbound on Interstate Highway 78 in the vicinity near Hamburg when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the commercial vehicle failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It reportedly veered to the left, crashing into the concrete barrier of a work zone. This pushed some of the sections of concrete barrier into the westbound lanes of the freeway. This led to another 18-wheeler and an SUV which had been headed westbound along the freeway crashing into the out-of-place sections of the barrier. As a result of this collision, the SUV overturned, coming to a stop resting on its roof.

One person who had been an occupant of the overturned SUV suffered reportedly severe injuries; they were transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment.
