Fireworks Accident at 'The Y' in Groveton, TX

It appears a local non-profit community association put on a fireworks show for the town to celebrate the 4th of July. In a video from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office, fireworks can be seen shooting off into the air until they somehow began launching sideways into the crowd.

Details at this time report that three people were hurt, though only one person apparently was taken to a hospital. Right now, the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

An accident like this is obviously going to bring up questions about how the incident happened. Beyond that, though, people will want to know what steps the organizers and/or local officials will take to ensure it doesn’t happen again. I’ve already seen some concerned comments from local residents suggesting there may have been issues in past events with this organization, as well. It’s certainly not for me to say if that’s true or not, but such concerns should receive appropriate attention. If nothing else, it raises red flags that someone needs to investigate the safety measures (or lack thereof) that were taken here and how similar accidents will be avoided in the future.
