Right now, no further information can be confirmed. With the details available, though, folks may think this all is open-and-shut. For one, this could be some unusual set of circumstances the truck driver couldn’t avoid. But even in the likely event the truck driver made a mistake, investigations need to be as thorough as possible. There could be an employer whose actions also contributed to the accident.

For example, was the driver under pressure to meet tight deadlines? Were they coerced into cutting corners by speeding, skipping rest breaks, making reckless maneuvers, or driving while distracted? Did the company fail to properly train the driver? Did the driver have a history of reckless behavior the employer ignored? Was the crash the result of a mechanical issue or tire blowout which could have been avoided with routine maintenance?

These are the kinds of questions that a thorough investigation must address. Too often, though, authorities will pin all of the blame on a reckless driver, then move on without a second thought. Simply put, across hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases I’ve handled, folks didn’t want some bad guy to blame. They wanted to see accountability. That means ensuring all parties responsible for the crash face appropriate consequences.
