Haskell County, TX — February 3, 2024, a teenager was injured as the result of a rollover car accident at around 11:15 a.m. along Highway 6.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that they were called to the crash scene a couple of miles north of the town of Rule and the intersection with U.S. Highway 380.

Investigators said that a 16-year-old boy was in a Dodge Nitro which was reportedly going southbound along the highway. While doing so, the vehicle somehow drifted right, swerved left, then went back to the right. The vehicle went onto the shoulder and reportedly began to overturn, flipping off the side of the road.
Due to the accident, the teen driver had apparently serious injuries, authorities said. There were no passengers reportedly involved, and there’s no indication right now of other vehicles being involved, either. Right now, the cause of the crash remains unconfirmed.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
After single-vehicle wrecks like this—especially with younger drivers—there are some familiar questions folks tend to jump to. But I want to ask a question that doesn’t get enough attention, even from the authorities: Did the victim’s vehicle perform appropriately in this situation?
Let me give a hypothetical to help explain this. An experienced accident reconstructionist might ask questions about a rollover authorities generally wouldn’t. For example, would other, similar vehicles that met modern safety standards overturn if put in the same situation? If the answer is yes, then there likely isn’t anything unusual there to consider. If no, however, it could be a sign there was a particular flaw with the victim’s vehicle that made the crash more severe than it would have otherwise been in a safer vehicle.
To be clear, I’m not suggesting anything of the sort happened here. I don’t know anything more than what authorities have released to the public. I only bring this up because folks too often focus on blaming a driver when there could be countless other contributing factors involved. Unless someone can say those possibilities have been ruled out, they shouldn’t jump to conclusions.
