Abilene, TX — June 16, 2025, Skyler Fowler was killed and three were injured following a motorcycle accident at around 10:00 p.m. on Treadaway Boulevard.
According to initial details about the accident from Abilene city officials, the crash happened at the intersection of Treadaway Boulevard and Butternut Street.

Investigators said that 20-year-old Skyler Fowler and a 20-year-old woman were on a Honda motorcycle going southbound on Treadaway. A Dodge pickup was going northbound and reportedly turning onto Butternut. Doing so, the motorcycle and the pickup collided.
Due to the collision, Skyler Fowler reportedly was killed while the woman riding passenger had serious injuries. Two in the pickup were said to have minor injuries. In preliminary statements, authorities reported looking into “speed and lighting” as possible factors. No further information is available.

It stands out to me that authorities specifically mentioned looking into speed and lighting here. They could have a very good reason for doing so, but I had different questions come to my mind when reading these preliminary reports. Looking at images of this intersection, I’m curious to know if the pickup turned across the motorcyclist’s right-of-way and why they believed it was safe to turn.
This might seem like a minor distinction, but I’ve seen countless motorcycle accidents where authorities were too quick to assume the rider was being reckless. That can happen, but it should be up to the evidence to say for sure. By ensuring there are unbiased and thorough investigations, steps can be taken to get the victim’s loved ones clear answers, one way or the other. So, have authorities here looked into more than just speed and lighting, or have their efforts been too narrow to really get the whole picture?
