Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When accidents like this happen, it’s easy for people to assume they were caused by a brief moment of distraction or poor judgment. However, based on my experience, incidents involving large vehicles—whether they are passenger or commercial—often involve multiple factors that require careful investigation. This single-vehicle crash on Marion Road is no exception.

While we don’t yet know what caused the van to veer off the road and crash into a house, several important questions need to be addressed. Was the driver distracted or dealing with a medical emergency? Could there have been a mechanical failure, such as brake or steering issues, that caused the driver to lose control? These are all possibilities that investigators will need to explore in order to fully understand the circumstances leading up to the accident.

Additionally, it’s worth considering whether the van was operating as part of a commercial fleet. If the van was owned by a company, it would be essential to examine the company’s role in maintaining the vehicle and ensuring the driver was properly trained. Commercial vehicles are often driven more frequently and under stricter timelines, which can lead to issues like deferred maintenance or driver fatigue. If poor vehicle maintenance or unrealistic expectations placed on the driver contributed to the accident, the company could share responsibility for what happened.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
