Hartley County, TX — December 31, 2023, a teenaged boy was killed in a single-car accident at approximately 11:35 p.m. along Farm to Market 2577.
According to authorities, a 17-year-old Cactus boy was traveling in a Chevy Equinox along F.M. 2577 approximately ten miles south of Dalhart when the accident took place.
Preliminary reports indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the Equinox failed to safely maintain its lane of travel; it allegedly began to veer off of the right side of the road before it was overcorrected. It then crossed left over both lanes of travel before crashing into a roadside ditch and overturning. It rolled an unknown number of times before coming to a stop. The teen reportedly sustained fatal injuries as a result of the accident, having been declared deceased at the scene.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by local authorities. The weather and road conditions in the area at the time have not been reported on. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time.
