Portland, ME — March 28, 2023, a student was injured as the result of an accident where a truck crashed into a school bus along Washington Avenue.
Preliminary details provided by authorities say it happened at around 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Allen Avenue. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation. Details suggest that a school bus was stopped along a left turn lane. There, a semi-truck somehow crashed into the back of the bus.
As a result of the collision, one student from the bus was taken to a hospital with apparently non-life-threatening injuries. No further information about the accident can be confirmed at this time.

Just before 8:00 a.m., there will no doubt be plenty of sunlight under normal circumstances. One would think that a truck driver would have plenty ability to spot a big, yellow bus. So why didn’t they here? Was it something simple, like a driver being on their phone? Or, could there be less common factors to consider, such as poor training, mechanical issues, or intoxicated driving?
Common or not, a kid was sent to the hospital. Non-life-threatening or not, those injuries need to be taken seriously, and that means having a clear understanding or what led to the wreck, how it all could have been avoided, and what steps will be necessary to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
