Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With a chaotic accident like this, my hope is that authorities haven’t been too hasty in their investigations. This sort of thing can happen for all kinds of reasons, including speeding, tire blowouts, mechanical defects, alcohol, road hazards, medical conditions, and even poor road design or maintenance. Likely or not, these things can cause accidents, and they’re not always within a driver’s control. Perhaps investigators here have been careful not to let anything important slip through the cracks, but it wouldn’t be the first time a crash like this required more thorough independent investigations.
