Johnston County, NC — June 13, 2023, Roy Dale Ward was fatally injured in due to a tractor-trailer accident at 8:30 a.m. on Interstate 40.
Authorities with the North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the incident took place north of Benson near McGee Crossroads and the Highway 210 intersection.
Initial details about the incident state that 58-year-old Roy Dale Ward was outside of a stationary semi that was hauling a large steel beam. While there, traffic around him was moving slowly. Authorities say that another approaching semi-truck swerved to avoid hitting that slower traffic, and the truck jackknifed onto the right shoulder where it struck Ward.
As a result of the collision, Ward sustained fatal injuries. Two others involved in the wreck had injuries that were described as minor. Right now, there is no information about what factors may have contributed to the crash nor whether or not authorities are considering charges. Investigations continue.
