Kleberg County, TX — July 11, 2023, Roberto Salinas Garza was killed and one was injured following a car accident at around 3:31 a.m. along U.S. 77.
Authorities released preliminary information about the fatal accident, which reportedly happened in the area of the U.S. Highway 77 and Schubert Drive intersection.

Officials said in statements that 58-year-old Roberto Salinas Garza and a 42-year-old man were each on a bicycle traveling northbound along the shoulder of the U.S. 77 frontage road. It’s alleged that Garza somehow fell over and was in the lane of travel as the other cyclist attempted to help him out of the roadway. While doing so, however, it appears that a Nissan Versa struck Garza.
As a result of the collision, Garza sustained serious injuries. It appears he succumbed to those injuries days following the wreck. The vehicle also apparently hit the other cyclist, who reportedly had non-incapacitating injuries. Officers say they made contact with the driver, but it’s unclear if any charges or citations are being considered. Additional details cannot be confirmed at this time.
