Harris County, TX — January 5, 2025, Roberto Rivera and one other were injured after an alleged drunk driver accident at around 12:10 a.m. on Mt. Houston Road.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened just west of the E. Mount Houston Road and Mesa Drive intersection.

Investigators said that 20-year-old Roberto Rivera was in a Cadillac going westbound along E. Mt. Houston. Details suggest that an oncoming Chevy Silverado failed to maintain its lane, and the two vehicles collided as a result.
Due to the collision, both Roberto Rivera and the Chevy driver had reportedly serious injuries. Details claim that the Chevy driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. Authorities recommended charges.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
A lot of people think that with alleged drunk driver accidents, authorities just file charges against the driver, and that’s that. While that is often how things go, that’s usually because authorities are overlooking another potential wrongdoer: a negligent alcohol provider. Allow me to explain.
Under Texas dram shop law, alcohol providers such as bars, restaurants, and other establishments can be held accountable if they serve alcohol to someone who is obviously intoxicated and that person causes harm to themselves or others. This law is designed to promote public safety by ensuring that alcohol-serving establishments follow responsible practices.
Too often, though, authorities let these negligent alcohol providers slip through the cracks. I’ve handled hundreds of alcohol-related accident cases. Many of those cases required our independent investigations to bring the alcohol providers forward so they could be held accountable. Had it been up to authorities alone, they likely would have flown under the radar to continue breaking the rules and putting lives at risk.
Perhaps authorities here have been more thorough, but that has yet to be shown.
