Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It’s possible that authorities only brought up alcohol here because it might be standard procedure for them to investigate after any fatal crash. Of course, that would also necessitate finding out if any intoxicated driver was unlawfully over-served by an alcohol provider, as the provider may be responsible for contributing to the crash.
That said, even unlikely possible factors need attention after a serious accident. Things like vehicle defects, road design flaws, missing lights or signage, and other possibilities can easily slip through the cracks. That’s why folks should consider how they feel about the efforts authorities are making in their investigations. Do they feel they’re getting clear, satisfactory answers? Or, do they feel that authorities are missing something, and things aren’t adding up? Depending on the answer, folks might feel that the accident would be better off in the hands of independent investigators.
