Calhoun County, TX — April 9, 2024, a Palacios man was killed due to a semi-truck accident at around 3:00 a.m. along Highway 35.
Investigators said they were called to the area of Highway 35 and F.M. 1593 on the east side of Point Comfort.

According to officials, a 43-year-old Palacios man was in a Toyota Tundra going eastbound along the highway. A Mack truck was going westbound. For reasons not confirmed right now, it appears the Tundra went to the left, and the vehicles collided head-on. The Palacios man died as a result of the accident. The truck driver reportedly had moderate injuries.
Currently, additional details remain unconfirmed.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
One of my main concerns with accidents like this is where exactly authorities are getting their information from. It might surprise people how often authorities simply talk to whoever is at the crash scene. That can lead to situations where the story police get and the story the evidence tells don’t match.
I had a case a while ago, for example, involving a crossover. Authorities said a car went left of center and hit an 18-wheeler head-on. The evidence, however, showed a complicated chain of events. Initially, the 18-wheeler drifted left of center, so the car swerved left to avoid it. The 18-wheeler then veered back into its original lane where the vehicles collided. Had there not been more thorough independent investigations, that may never have come to light.
The main reason I bring this up is due to the fact this happened early in the morning in a not-so-busy area, and only one person involved in the crash is around to tell their side of the story. Hopefully authorities have been diligent behind the scenes to make sure they have clear evidence to ensure the victim’s loved ones know they’re getting the whole story. Otherwise, there may need to be more thorough independent investigations.
