One thing I talk about a lot on this blog is the importance of ensuring there are proper, thorough investigations into what happened. People tend to just assume authorities will have things under control and get clear answers. With a multi-vehicle crash like this, though, the details can become more complex than what authorities typically deal with.
Were there any mechanical defects? Did airbags and seatbelts function properly? Is this a dangerous stretch of road? Was someone illegally over-served by an alcohol provider? Did faulty brakes or tires contribute to the crash? Is there missing signage or lighting that contributed to the crash? Generally, people don’t often consider anything beyond speeding and distracted driving. Those are common, but they’re just a few of the many possibilities a proper accident reconstruction has to look into.
If authorities here have worked to consider these possibilities, then hopefully that means those involved here feel they’re getting clear answers. Otherwise, if they’re left with unanswered questions, it’s possible the official investigations are falling short of the mark.
